I believe in God and Freedom

I believe in freedom and personal liberty and am committed to standing for freedom in all circumstances.

Freedom is best protected by a virtuous and moral people who are educated and well informed.

I believe that God has given every person his inalienable right to the free exercise of his agency. That does not make him free from the consequences of how he chooses to use his agency. That freedom and liberty encompasses the right to succeed and the right to fail, not the right to be bailed out by another.

In order for someone to practice charity the freedom to give of their property without any means of coercion or any method of redistributing their property without their consent must be protected.

I believe that a man’s right to life, liberty, and property in the pursuit of happiness is given to him by God and that man is accountable to God in exercising these rights.

Old conversation with Amber

You think you know yourself and who you are, but you don’t truly know until you are tested. You must be tested in your area of weakness… and many times you don’t know it is your weakness.. you may even think it is your strength.

It is through your trials that you do become who you hoped you were.

– Thoughts from conversation with Amber about how to improve on weaknesses. In particular, pride. – 06/10/06.

Sheriff Mack

Last night Amber and I went to a district 19 meeting (RNC monthly meeting) for the first time.  My dad had told me about it and invited me to go.  So we were there together with my dad and mom.  Richard Mack was the guest speaker for the night.  I can’t remember how I had come across him, but I had already heard of and watched some of his own interviews before hearing him at the meeting.  He has written a new book called "The county sheriff – America’s Last Hope".  He talked about his experience as a law enforcement officer and his time as sheriff of the Pima county or somewhere else in AZ.  I enjoyed what he had to say and agreed with his approach.  He says he is going to be having an interview with "the judge" on fox 15 in the next few weeks and he has been working on getting on with Glenn Beck.

Anyway, tonight I had to go into work to make a change for the new verizon client.  After completing that I was driving home and got pulled over by a cop.  I had no idea why, and he informed me he had pulled me over because my tail lights were not working.  Okay, I thought.  Thank you for letting me know and I’ll see you later.  Not so easy.  He proceeds to keep me waiting there in my vehicle for a full 15 to 20 minutes while he does his thing in his car.  Then he comes back with an ORDER for me to repair my non-functioning tail lights.  Wow.  I don’t have enough freedom to make the repair myself under my own concience.  I have to have an order from the state to make sure I do it.  I must (within the next 5 days) send in documentation showing that I have repaired it.  It’s a simple matter of changing a fuse.  I’m not going to be having a "firm" perform the labor as the "ticket" he gave me assumes you will do.  So I guess I’ll write my name in as the firm and then sign it together with a receipt for the fuse from wherever I get it.

I took the opportunity to talk with the officer a little bit about Sheriff Mack.  I just asked if he had heard of him.  He hadn’t, so I proceeded to tell him about my meeting the night before and what he had to say about the importance of law enforcement officials actually keeping their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and to do so against enemies foreign and domestic.  There’s a group called "Oath Keepers" (www.oathkeepers.org) that Sheriff Mack is a part of and is where I had read about him.  I don’t think I probably had any influence on the officer, but who knows.  It was just amazing to me to see first hand the freedoms we have lost.  It may seem like a smaller matter, but it is what it represents.  The fact that our government has become so entrenched in our lives to the point that I can’t be left to myself to repair my own vehicle.  I have to be ordered to do it.  Good old force and coercion.

Lynnea's Song

Just had to write a quick note so I would remember Lynnea’s little songs she makes up.  I was working on a lesson for church and hear Lynnea singing about her pink hair.  She was playing with a pink shawl and draping it over her head as though it was her hair.

"My hair is all pink, my hair is all pink, my hair is all pink and it will never change to brown.  Unless I ask for Christmas for it to be brown, and then it will be brown."  Wish I could capture her singing so you could hear the tune.  Pretty funny.

Inspiration

Inspiration comes more quickly when we need it to help others than when we are concerned about ourselves.

…carry a prayer in your heart always. Let sleep come every night with your mind centered in prayer.

via LDS.org – Ensign Article – Prayers and Answers.

I came across this talk by Pres. Packer by doing a search on lds.org for "Have ye inquired of the Lord" after beginning to study 1 Nephi 15 which is the chapter I am currently studying in the Book of Mormon.

I’m going to the temple this morning.  Got up early with the intent to study and pray and Amber helped me to decide to go to the Temple.  I’m very grateful for her good influence on me.  I love her with all of my heart.

Follow-up:  I decided to go to the 6am session instead of 5:30am so I could finish my studying.  Then when I started heading out I realized I could not find my wallet.  I offered a prayer and then found my wallet.  I felt the distinct thought come to my mind that it was a small answer to prayer and I was being tested with it to see if I would acknowledge the Lord’s hand in all things.  It’s easy to dismiss small helps you receive from the Lord as having been a coincidence.  I have resolved to make improved effort at recognizing the Lord’s blessings and remembering to thank Him.  Didn’t make the session (1 minute late) so I did sealings instead.  When changing back into my regular clothes I heard someone next to me sharing a story of his stake president (I believe) when he was in the presidency with him.  They would come to the temple together regularly (as a presidency) and after going through one session he would always say, "We have to do a second session…the second one is free!"  He would say that you pay for the first one because you have to get yourself up and get there, but then for the second one you’re already there and so it’s free.  I thought that was funny and a good thought.
